Web3

Web 3.0

A form of the internet where data is distributed and managed collectively, without any central administrator.

In Simple Terms

Web3 is a form of the internet where no single company monopolizes data — instead, it is managed collectively in a distributed way. It uses blockchain technology so that participants can verify data with one another. For example, rather than storing a digital item on a specific company's server, you can record ownership as something that truly belongs to you. This makes it possible to move or trade items freely, without depending on any one company.

Behind the Name

Web3 stands for the third generation of the internet. It follows the first generation, where information was consumed one-way, and the second generation, which enabled two-way communication through social media and similar platforms. Web3 refers to a decentralized model where, rather than relying on a handful of large corporations, the network is collectively maintained by its participants.

Take a Closer Look!

Web3 refers to a decentralized internet powered by blockchain technology, with no central administrator.
Previous iterations of the internet — known as Web2.0 — were characterized by large corporations centralizing control over user data and access. Web3 shifts away from this model: instead of concentrating information in one place, data is recorded and managed in a distributed way by everyone participating in the network.

To put it simply, the defining feature of Web3 is that you can truly own and control your own data and digital assets.
It reduces the risk of a specific company suddenly shutting down a service or unilaterally altering your data. It also enables direct peer-to-peer connections without intermediaries, lowering fees and allowing for greater freedom in transactions.

Because blockchain makes tampering with records extremely difficult after the fact, and because management is based on consensus among all participants, digital assets can be proven to belong exclusively to you.
Web3 represents a movement to break free from dependence on specific platforms and open the internet up as a more accessible space for everyone.
