Personalization is a system that uses a user's profile and past behavior data to deliver the most relevant information or service to that person. Instead of showing every user the same website, it automatically selects and displays content matched to each person's interests and preferences, creating an experience tailored just for them.
To make this happen, all sorts of data get collected and analyzed behind the scenes on websites and apps. For example, basic details like a user's gender and age get combined with history data, such as search terms they've used or product pages they spent a long time browsing. By processing these small pieces of behavioral data, the system infers what the user is currently interested in.
The more data that gets collected, the more accurately the system can predict that person's preferences. As a result, users can skip the hassle of digging through tons of information themselves and go straight to the products or information that interest them. Beyond shopping sites, this system is used across plenty of everyday services, including news apps and video streaming platforms.
