A humanoid robot is a robot with a body and structure similar to a human's, including a head, arms, and legs. It can walk on two legs, climb up and down stairs, and use its fingers to handle tools. Humanoid robots are being developed for all kinds of tasks in place of humans, from assembly work in factories to rescue operations in disaster zones and guidance services in stores and facilities.
Behind the Name
The word "humanoid" comes from combining "human" with the suffix "-oid", which means "resembling" or "having the form of". So "humanoid" literally means "human-like", and adding "robot" gives you a robot built to resemble a human in shape.

Humanoid robots move in one of two ways, "bipedal walking" or "wheels", and they come in many types depending on the role they're built for.
Among the types built to perform physical work with their arms, bipedal models have the advantage of handling stairs and uneven terrain, while wheeled models are also used for tasks like transport and picking in factories and logistics warehouses.
There are also specialized models focused less on physical work and more on voice AI and screen displays, used for communication and guidance in stores and facilities.
For hands-on care tasks like physically assisting people in caregiving settings, though, it's usually not humanoid robots that get used, but dedicated wearable devices designed to support a caregiver's own movements.
