AI Native

AI Native

A generation that grew up with AI, or a product or company built with AI as its core.

In Simple Terms

AI Native refers to a generation that's had AI around since birth, or to products, services, companies, and workflows built with AI as their starting point and core. When it describes people, it means someone who grew up using AI search and generative tools, and whose instinct is to ask AI before looking things up themselves. It's also used for products, services, business processes, and organizations that were designed from the ground up with AI built in.

Behind the Name

The word "native" comes from an English word meaning "born" or "someone who grew up in a particular place." From there, it came to describe a situation where something feels normal from the very start — as if it had always been that way — and pairing that idea with AI is what gave us the term "AI Native."

Take a Closer Look!

The term "AI Native" covers two different ideas with two different roots: people or generations who've grown up with AI as a given, and companies, organizations, products, or services built around AI as their core.

For people, it's an extension of "digital native" into the AI era — having AI around from the start, and treating a conversation with AI as the natural way to find information rather than using a search engine. Working alongside AI on writing, images, and other everyday tasks feels second nature.

For companies and products, the term carries over the thinking behind "cloud-native." It's not just about designing with AI in mind from day one — it also covers existing companies or systems being comprehensively redesigned around AI. The defining trait: the whole structure assumes AI is running underneath it. AI is woven in so deeply that the product or business wouldn't function without it, which sets it apart from "AI-enabled" — bolting AI features onto an existing system without rethinking the design.

This idea has also spread into marketing and product development, where companies design products meant to feel natural to the AI-native generation — starting from that customer profile rather than treating it as an afterthought bolted onto an existing product.
