Agentic AI

Agentic AI

AI that can think and act on its own toward a goal, without needing detailed instructions from a human.

In Simple Terms

Agentic AI refers to AI that can work out the detailed steps needed to reach a big goal on its own, then carry them out. For example, if you ask it to plan a trip, it won't just book accommodations and check train times — if something goes wrong, it will find an alternative plan by itself. While earlier AI excelled at specific pattern analysis or following instructions exactly, agentic AI can judge things autonomously toward a goal and see the job through to completion.

Behind the Name

The name comes from the English word "Agent" plus the suffix "-ic," which describes a quality or characteristic. Since an agent is someone who acts on another's behalf, the name carries the nuance of something that thinks and acts independently in place of a human. It's also sometimes called Autonomous AI.

Take a Closer Look!

Agentic AI is autonomous AI that plans and carries out actions on its own toward a given objective.
Traditional AI mainly handled automated processing or analysis within a pre-set scope, but agentic AI's key difference is that it can autonomously plan, use tools, and execute steps toward a goal under limited supervision.

The key to this mechanism is that the AI has the ability to reflect on its own actions and make corrections.
For example, when given a coding task, if an error occurs, it can analyze the cause itself and rebuild the corrected code.
It can also solve problems by making use of external tools or collaborating with other AI systems.

Put simply, AI is evolving from a mere tool into something more like a capable assistant that thinks and acts on its own.
Use cases include automating business operations at companies and supporting complex research.
The goal is to reduce the burden on humans and let them focus on more advanced work.
